A former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mike Okiro, has asserted that Tunji Disu‘s achievement as the Commissioner of Police for Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) may have led to his appointment as the Inspector General of Police.
News recalls that Disu took over from Kayode Egbetokun at a handing-over ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday.
This was after President Bola Tinubu decorated him with his new rank as the acting Inspector-General of Police at the State House, Abuja.
Speaking on the development during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’, Okiro pointed Nigerian will eventually commend Tinubu for Disu’s appointment.
He said, “He worked as the Commissioner of Police in Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory, and I believe he did his job perfectly, that is why the President appointed him.
“And I know at the end of the day, Nigerians will hail President Tinubu for appointing him as the Inspector General of Police.”
Okiro added that the new IGP has a lot of work waiting for him.
“He has a lot before him, one of which is the state of the police. The state of the police is so bad, very low.
“So I praise him, and I wish him well, as I know him, to face these problems headlong. And at the end of the day, Nigerians will be happy.”
