Sabon Gari in Distress as Vandals Empty Revoked School — ICSF Petitions Gov. Abba Over Police Inaction

Kano, Nigeria

The Inter-tribe Community Support Forum (ICSF) has raised an alarm over the continued vandalization of Dan Wari Primary and Secondary School, Sabon Gari, despite the revocation of its illegal sale by the Kano State Government.

According to an open letter made available to TalkExprex by the Coordinator of ICSF, Nworisa Michael, the school located in the Nomansland area of Sabon Gari has been “stripped bare” by vandals in recent days. Michael noted that virtually all windows, doors, roofing zincs, pillars, and metallic fixtures have been looted.

He explained that when vandalism first began, community members raised an alarm at night, forcing the vandals to flee. By morning, residents reported the incident to the school’s principal, but “no meaningful response or preventive action” was taken.

ICSF also expressed concern that despite notifying the Nomansland Police Division, security operatives were not deployed to secure the school, allowing the destruction to continue unchecked.

The Forum is therefore calling for:

Immediate intervention by His Excellency, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, to halt the ongoing vandalism and safeguard the property.

A formal investigation into the conduct of the school’s principal and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for failing to prevent further destruction after early warnings were issued.

Michael stressed that the community is distressed and confused, especially as the school had already been reclaimed by the government, making the unchecked vandalism even more troubling.

He urged the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs to facilitate swift government action, stating that the situation threatens both public property and community trust.

ICSF reaffirmed its confidence in the state government’s commitment to justice and urged prompt action to protect the school and hold those responsible accountable.
