Ramadan: KASPA Urges Public Support for 1.7 Million Vulnerable Kano Residents

By Nworisa Michael

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the Kano State Social Protection Agency (KASPA) has called on wealthy individuals, corporate organizations, and non-governmental bodies to support over 1.7 million vulnerable persons captured in the agency’s social register.

The appeal was made public by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Rabiu Khalil Kura, following a management meeting of the agency held at its headquarters in Kano.

According to the statement, the Director-General of KASPA, Dr. Fateema Abubakar Abdullahi (Amneef), highlighted the increasing hardship faced by many families across the state, noting that rising living costs and poverty often make it difficult for households to meet basic needs such as food and healthcare, especially during Ramadan.

She stressed the need for collective compassion and shared responsibility to ease the suffering of the poor and vulnerable during a sacred period associated with kindness, empathy, and care for one another.

Dr. Fateema commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his sustained commitment to social welfare, particularly the state’s Ramadan feeding programme, which she described as a major source of relief and hope for thousands of struggling households.

She also drew attention to the ongoing KASPA/KACHMA free healthcare programme, which currently provides medical support to more than 20,000 orphans and senior citizens across Kano State many of whom would otherwise be unable to access essential healthcare services.
The Director-General noted that extending support during Ramadan is not merely an act of charity but a moral responsibility to preserve human dignity and protect the most vulnerable members of society.

She encouraged individuals and organizations willing to support or benefit from KASPA’s programmes to contact the agency for further engagement.
Dr. Fateema reaffirmed KASPA’s commitment to strengthening social protection systems and ensuring that no vulnerable citizen is left behind, particularly during critical periods such as the holy month of Ramadan.
