Police Suspend Nationwide Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit Following Court Order

By Nworisa Michael

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the suspension of the nationwide enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy following an interim court order restraining the move.

The Police had earlier disclosed plans to commence enforcement of the policy from January 2, 2026, citing public safety and internal security concerns. However, the plan has now been put on hold after the Force was served with a court order on December 17, 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the interim order was granted in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, directing the Police to suspend enforcement pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or until the order is vacated.

According to the statement, the Nigeria Police Force has since entered an appearance in court, raised preliminary objections, and formally applied for the vacation of the interim order.
β€œThe enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy will remain suspended nationwide in strict compliance with the subsisting court order,” the statement noted.

The case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
The Police leadership reiterated its commitment to respecting judicial authority while carrying out its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property. Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed that the Force would continue to adopt lawful and intelligence-driven strategies to address security challenges across the country.

The Police also assured members of the public that further updates and clear guidance would be communicated as the court proceedings progress, in the interest of public order and national security.
