Kano Govt, CSOs Brainstorm on Rising Insecurity: Advocate Inclusive Dialogue to “Attend to Unite”

By Nworisa Michael

The Kano State Ministry for Information and Internal Affairs, in partnership with the Patriotic Kano Civil Society Forum, on Monday 1st December 2025 convened a one-day stakeholders’ engagement to chart a collective response to the rising insecurity across the state.

The meeting, held in Kano and attended by leaders of various civil society organisations, and media representative focused on practical, community-driven solutions to growing security concerns.

While several presenters shared insights on intelligence gathering, youth engagement, conflict-sensitive communication, and inter-agency collaboration, one intervention however took a striking point especially with the recent call for arrest of the state’s former governor H.E Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje by the serving governor. This was the call for inclusive dialogue that cuts across political divides.

Barr. Nura Mohammed, Executive Director of Mufarka Youth Development Initiative, urged the government to widen the scope of security consultations by engaging all stakeholders, irrespective of political party or affiliation.

According to him, insecurity does not recognise political boundaries; therefore, responses to it should not be selective either.

He introduced a striking concept he described as “Attend to Unite”, arguing that the strength of Kano’s security architecture depends on how much voices from all segments of society are allowed into the room. “His Excellency is the Chief Security Officer of the state. Insecurity affects everyone NNPP, ADC, APC, PDP, traders, professionals, youth, women, community elders. This is not a time to fragment participation. We need to ‘Attend to Unite’. Everyone must be carried along,” Barr. Nura said.

Participants echoed other concerns, stressing the need for early-warning systems, technology-supported security reporting, strengthened community policing, and more government-civil society synergy.

Hon. Comr. Ibrahim A. Waiya Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs appreciated the contributions and assured participants that their recommendations would be documented and diligently looked into.
