A coalition of over 310 civil society organisations operating in Kano State has taken a firm stand against what it describes as discriminatory and demeaning conduct in the civic space, distancing itself from alleged remarks and actions linked to Dr. Abdulsalam Kani.
In a press release dated February 6, 2026, the Kano Patriotic Coalition of CSOs Forum (KPCF) expressed deep concern over reports of intimidation, verbal abuse, and assault allegedly directed at Mr. Nworisa Michael and members of the Persons with Special Disabilities (PWDs) community in Kano.
Beyond the names and accusations, the coalition framed the issue as one that strikes at the heart of civic engagement itself.
“We must be clear and unequivocal,” the coalition stated, stressing that it does not support, endorse, or condone any form of discrimination, intimidation, or profiling whether based on disability, religion, opinion, or social background.

According to KPCF, civil society is sustained not by loud rhetoric or public posturing, but by humility, inclusion, and mutual respect. Any conduct that undermines these principles, the coalition warned, contradicts the very essence of democratic culture.
The coalition said it was particularly disturbed by allegations that members of the PWD community were subjected to harassment and derogatory remarks, noting that persons with disabilities are equal citizens whose voices and participation in public discourse must be protected not silenced.
In its resolutions, KPCF:
1. Clearly distanced itself from all discriminatory or inflammatory statements attributed to Dr. Abdulsalam Kani.
2. Expressed solidarity with Mr. Nworisa Michael and affected members of the PWD community.
3. Called for civility, restraint, and accountability in civic and political engagements across Kano State.
4. Reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive, respectful, and peaceful civic participation for all residents, regardless of background or physical ability.
The coalition also reiterated its readiness to continue working with the Kano State Government in advancing human development through collaboration and partnership, stressing that progress must never come at the expense of dignity.
In a broader message to civil society actors, scholars, and opinion leaders, KPCF reminded stakeholders that leadership in the civic space is measured not by titles or declarations, but by character, conduct, and respect for human dignity.
The statement was jointly signed by Hassan Ibrahim Gama (Convener), Mustapha Muhammed Chiroma (Co-Convener ), and Peter Hassan Tijjani (Co-Convener ).
