The Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on National and International Relations, Hon. Muhammad Jamu Yusuf Oon, has thrown his weight behind Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf following the governor’s announcement of his exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Governor Yusuf personally announced his decision to leave the NNPP on January 23, a move that has continued to generate reactions across Kano State’s political space.
Speaking on the development, Hon. Jamu Yusuf Oon described the governor’s decision as timely and strategic, noting that it aligns with the long-term political and developmental interests of Kano State. According to him, the governor’s leadership experience, political maturity, and expanding network place him in a strong position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hon. Jamu Yusuf Oon further noted that Governor Yusuf’s exit from the NNPP reflects growing political realignments within the state, adding that the move is expected to strengthen governance and open new opportunities for collaboration at the national level.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who is currently serving his term as Kano State Governor, has maintained significant influence within the state’s political structure. His announcement has reportedly received support from several political stakeholders and party loyalists.
Although no official declaration has been made regarding his next political platform, indications suggest that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may be his next destination.
Political analysts believe the development could reshape political alliances in Kano State as preparations towards the 2027 elections continue.
