Dorayi Tragedy: LESPADA Condemns Brutal Killing of Housewife, Six Children in Kano

By Nworisa Michael

League for Societal Protection Against Drug Abuse (LESPADA) strongly condemns the gruesome and heartbreaking killing of a housewife and her six innocent children in Dorayi, Kano, which occurred on January 17, 2026. This wicked and barbaric act is deeply troubling, inhumane, and completely unacceptable.
This tragic incident is not an isolated case. Sadly, such killings are gradually becoming recurrent in Kano State, and this dangerous trend must not be allowed to continue. The continuous loss of innocent lives particularly women and children is a clear indication that urgent and decisive action is required.

LESPADA emphasizes that the rising tide of violent crimes within our communities is closely linked to the growing problem of drug abuse. Substance abuse fuels aggression, impairs judgment, and often drives individuals into criminal behaviour. Any serious and sustainable effort to tackle insecurity in Kano State must therefore include firm, consistent, and coordinated action against drug abuse and drug-related crimes.

The organisation calls on the Kano State Government to take proactive and decisive steps to address this growing menace. We urge security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance community policing, intensify efforts against drug abuse, and ensure the protection of lives and property across the state.

LESPADA also calls on community members, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and residents to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security agencies. Communities must play an active role in discouraging drug abuse, identifying suspicious and drug-related activities, and supporting prevention as well as rehabilitation initiatives. Security is a collective responsibility, and timely information from the public can help prevent future tragedies.

Furthermore, LESPADA demands a thorough and transparent investigation into this heinous crime. The perpetrator or perpetrators must be swiftly identified and brought to justice. Accountability is essential not only to serve justice but also to restore public confidence and deter similar crimes.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and the entire Dorayi community. We pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed and for strength and comfort for those left behind.
Enough is enough. Kano must be safe for all.
