Dorayi Massacre Uncovered: Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Kano Family Slaughter

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano, an incident that shocked residents of the state.


The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.


According to a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated sting operation conducted between 10:00pm on January 17 and 4:00am on January 18, 2026.


The suspects identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as “Chebe,” 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called “Wawo,” 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters, are alleged to have masterminded and carried out the brutal killings.


Police sources disclosed that Umar Auwalu, who is reportedly a nephew of the deceased woman, confessed to his involvement in the crime during interrogation. He further admitted that the same group had allegedly been involved in previous violent attacks, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.


Items recovered from the suspects include bloodstained clothing, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club locally known as gora, cash allegedly stolen from the crime scene, and other dangerous weapons.


The Police Command confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.


Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Kano State Police Command also appreciated members of the public for their cooperation, support, and timely information, reiterating its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.


The Dorayi killings had sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over violent crimes in Kano, with many residents calling for decisive action and justice for the victims.
The Police have urged the public to remain calm and continue to support security agencies with credible information as efforts to curb criminal activities in the state continue.
