The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has criticised the title of a Nollywood movie produced by actress Ini Edo, describing it as offensive to Christian beliefs.
CAN expressed concern that the movie title, A Very Dirty Christmas, undermines the spiritual meaning of Christmas, which Christians worldwide observe as a sacred celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

In a statement issued by the association, CAN said the use of the word “dirty” in reference to Christmas was insensitive and disrespectful, stressing that religious symbols and seasons should be treated with dignity.
The association called on filmmakers and content creators to show greater responsibility and cultural awareness, noting that while creative freedom is important, it should not come at the expense of religious harmony and mutual respect.
CAN further warned that provocative content touching on religion could deepen social tensions and urged stakeholders in the entertainment industry to engage faith communities more thoughtfully.

As of the time of filing this report, Ini Edo and the movie’s production team had not issued an official response to the concerns raised.
The development has sparked public debate, with some Nigerians defending artistic expression while others support CAN’s call for respect for Christian values.
